Course Description
Ayn Rand was interested in conveying her ideas to new audiences; we at ARI are too. More widely, learning to effectively communicate your ideas to new audiences is an important skill to learn. This course focuses on some of the principles and practice of effective oral communication. We consider some of the principles of proper communication from an Objectivist perspective and then students practice the skills they are learning by giving short talks on intellectual topics, followed by extensive instructor feedback.

September 26, 2024 | Final Grades, Course Survey, and My Thanks
Hi everyone,
If you haven’t yet, please complete the anonymous course evaluation survey. We would really appreciate your input. This course has been significantly modified and improved based on the feedback from students from its first iteration, and I hope we can make it even better with yours. Many thanks to those who already completed it.
Most importantly, on behalf of Yaron and me, thank you for participating in the course, meticulously following a strict schedule, carefully preparing for class and practicing your presentations, and giving your attention to your peers. I hope you learned a lot and that we will see the application of your oral communication skills on stage or screen. It was a pleasure to work with all of you.
You should receive your final grades for this course from Aravind shortly. If by the end of the week you haven’t, or you have any questions, please reach out.
Until next time,
Robertas Bakula

August 2, 2024 | Schedule reminder, grades, and assignments
August 2, 2024 | Schedule reminder, grades, and assignments
Hello everyone,
Schedule:
First, reminder that there is no class next week. We will reconvene on August 12, 12pm PT, and continue on Mondays from then on.
Reflection Assignment Grading:
we decided to change the grading system for reflection assignments. They will be graded simply as either Pass (5) or Fail (0). Fail means either a) you didn’t submit the assignment in time, or b) your answer does not answer the assignment, which is to clearly state which part of Yaron’s feedback to which specific speaker you are reflecting on, and what general lesson are you drawing from it. I remind that the deadline for this week’s reflection assignment is Sunday, August 4th, 11:59 pm PT.
Outline and Presentation grades:
Grades for First Outlines have been posted for everyone who already presented their Round 1. Grades for Presentations will be posted as soon as some technical issues are resolved.
Have a great week and see you all in next class.
Robertas Bakula
