The home of ARU was moved to aru.aynrand.org

The interface below is a beta version of the grading interface that will be part of the ARU 2.0 software product. Given the performance issues with the current grading interface, we have decided to port the new version to the current site, so the faculty can start benefiting from some of the performance improvements we’ve already realized.

The state of this tool is as follows:

  • Assignment retrieval works relatively quickly based on the filtering dropdowns below, starting from “Group” and working from left-to-right. Further, you can load an assignment in the same window, without having to reload the page.
  • For standard text-entry assignments, clicking “Open” will bring up a modal window that allows you to see the assignment, assign a grade and a comment, and then save with one click. Doing so will automatically update the assignment’s Status to “Graded”, and remove it from your ungraded queue.
  • For file upload assignments, Clicking “Download” will open a new tab with the file. You can still click “Open” to open the modal that allows you to enter grades and comments. Alternatively, if you don’t have comments, you can just assign the grade via the table view.
  • If you have kept track of grades elsewhere and just need to enter them, you can enter them in the table view. Clicking “Save” in the table view will save the grade and toggle the assignment’s status to “Graded”, removing it from the ungraded feed.

Given that this interface is transplanted to the current site, and is still a work in progress, please expect some limitations.

  • The filtering experience is somewhat awkward. We are aiming to simplify it.
  • Bulk downloading and bulk printing is not currently available in this tool. Please use the old tool for that. Feel free, however, to enter grades via this table interface after you’ve bulk downloaded from there.
  • Much of the styling relies on code that lives on the new site, which conflicts with code on this site. As a result, some things will look janky. Boxes and buttons will be a little off in alignment and sizing. Don’t worry about that, it will be fixed in the final version.
  • Column headers, descriptors of various items, and text around the table are not final. For example, the column called “Title” is a placeholder.
  • Within the grading modal, there is currently too much whitespace between paragraph breaks.
  • Generally, we are still trying to simplify the user experience; your feedback will help us further streamline this design.

Submitting multiple grades at once

Warning: Currently, ungraded assignments in the table has the grade input field set to 0 by default, even though the actual grade is empty.

The button Submit All Grades will save all assignment’s grades, including cases where you might not have attributed a grade, which means, that those assigments will be graded as 0

In order to safely use the Submit All Grades button, please, make sure you attribute grades to all assignments visible on the table.

When you click this button, all assignments will be graded either with the grade you input or if you leave it as 0, and it be will excluded from the assignment’s table if the dropdown status is set to Ungraded
