Rationalists argue that certain knowledge items are necessary for science but cannot be abstracted from experience. These items of knowledge are the product of “intuition.” Of the examples discussed in the readings, which do you consider the most compelling example of ‘intuited’ knowledge? What makes it compelling?
Relate either rationalism or empiricism (not both!) to the approaches to philosophy of science we discussed in lecture one. For example: would empiricism accept the content view? Why/not? Would rationalism be content merely to describe scientific practice, or would it offer methodological guidance? Etc.
How do you think Objectivism would understand the thought experiment discussed on page 411 of Stump?
