Thinking and Planning Assignment
This week’s assignment is the first assignment in the process of writing your second paper. Last week, you chose a subject for your paper and began doing research and thinking on that subject. This week, your assignment is to make that thinking explicit by documenting your answers to the Four Questions and excerpting your research notes.
There are two parts to this assignment:
1. Write out explicitly and briefly your answers to the following questions:
- What is your subject?
- Who is your audience and what is their view of your subject? (What do they know about it and what how do they evaluate it?)
- What is your view of your subject?
- Where does the heavy lifting need to be? (That is, given your audience’s context and their view of your subject, what facts and arguments can you present to them that will persuade them of some aspect of your view of the subject.)
It is not required to include a statement of your theme and of the contrasting viewpoint, but feel free to include them.
2. Create a set of notes no more than 1 page long. It should be a list of points, examples, quotations, facts, thoughts, and so on, that capture the most important pieces of research that you’ve done for your article.
Submit both of these items to this week’s homework board.
DUE: Sunday, 11:59 pm your local time.
